Manchester United have confirmed the signing of
left back Luke Shaw. Shaw, 18, has signed on a four-year deal from
Southampton for £27m. Manchester United had been strongly linked to
Shaw during this summer and had a £27m bid
rejected in May. The deal could rise to £31m depending on his
success at Old Trafford.

Shaw was keen to leave the south coast for the
sights of Manchester, after joining the Saints
Academy as an eight-year-old. Southampton were
said to be wanting around £40m for him. He became the youngest player to feature at this
year's World Cup in Brazil playing against Costa Rica
in England's final group match. On his move to Manchester United, Shaw said: "I
want to continue to progress my career and joining
United is the ideal place for me to do that." He becomes the fourth most expensive defender in
world football.
