« on: November 06, 2016, 01:49:58 AM »

Sometimes Forum Spam can be very annoying and frustrating, You start receiving hundreds of registrations or posts on your forum.

These spam jobs are majorly done by robots (automated codes) that register and post random meaningless topics in other to drive traffic and get back-links to a certain site

Then you become confused wondering how to stop these spammers (Spam bots),
Sometimes banning the spammer's IP or Username does not stop it from coming back.

Closing down the entire registration and comment might just be too extreme, because real human users will also be affected.

Today i will be showing you different ways you can Stop Forum spam on SMF.

1) Set Security Questions And Using ReCaptcha Mod

ReCaptcha was invented by google to battle general spam on the internet.
Download and install Smf Recaptcha Mod

2) Stop New Users From Posting Links

Disabling the posting of links by new users will chase of the spammer
Anti-Spam Links Mod can solve this problem

3) Using An External Filtering Service

There are many 3rd party sites which would check user's data against various databases.
And they can automatically fish out spammers (you can try them listed below).

i) Akismet Spam Protection
ii) httpBL
iii) Project Honey Pot MOD
iv) Stop Forum Spam
v) Stop Spammer

4) Use of Bad Behavior Mod

Bad Behavior mod

Bad Behavior complements other link spam solutions by acting as a gatekeeper, preventing spammers from ever delivering their content, and in many cases, from ever reading your site in the first place.  Bad Behavior analyzes the delivery method as well as the software the spammer is using.  In this way, Bad Behavior can stop spam attacks even when nobody has ever seen the particular spam before.

5) Enable Email Activation

Forcing users to activate and verify their email account can push off spam on your forum.
Even though this method is no longer effective (many bots now have the ability to verify their email addresses after registration), it should be used.

That's all!

Tell us which one of the above you are currently using to Stop Forum Spam  :)
