The watercress is an acquatic plant known for its bright green color, small leaves and tender stalk this plant grows comonly around us and might just be next door. As small as this "weed" might seem, it posseses nutrients of great value to the human system that you might just be interested in and maybe add to your diet.
 Here are some importance of the watercress plant.

1. The watercress has high nutritional values.

Each 100g of watercress contains 0% of saturated fat,0% of cholesterol, 1% of Sodium and Iron, 9% of potassium, 2% of dietary fibre, 4% of protein, 63% of Vitamin A, 71% of Vitamin C, 12% of Calcium, 5% of Vitamin B-6 and Magnesium and the list goes on and on. The fact is each 100g injested helps you build stronger bones, enhanced eye sight and also reduce your chances of having constipation

2. Watercress reduces the risk of lung cancer in smokers

According to a study, presented at the anual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, the increased risk for lung cancer caused by smoking cigarettes can be lowered or mitigated with extracts. It was also proven that extracts from watercress reduced the effects of carcinogens in smokers, lowering their risk for developing lung cancer. Researchers from the University of Pittsburg found that daily supplement of the extract reduced the activation of nicotine-derived nitrosamine ketone, and increased detoxification of benzene and acrolein, in effect lowering the risk for lung cancer.

3. Lowers blood pressure

 Since watercress is a calcium-rich plant(food) that contains these useful minerals as magnesium and potassium, it may help lower blood pressure by releasing sodium out of the body and helping  the arteries dilate. Watercress and similar foods have been shown to have vascular benefits, such as reducing blood pressure and inhibiting platelet aggregation. suggesting that a diet rich food inclusive of watercress is a wise choice to help maintain healthy blood pressure.

4 Watercress supports healthy skin, hair and nails.
