HummingBad is a rootkit which installs itself deep inside a phone’s operating system to avoid detection and gives its creators complete control over the handset.
Immediately it makes it way to your device, HummingBad installs apps on your device and spies on your browsing habits.
It also generates fake clicks for online adverts
Yingmob uses HummingBad to control 10 million devices globally and generate $300,000 per month in fraudulent ad revenue.
How to Know Your Device Is Infected.The moment your Android phone starts displaying unusual advertisements, or you start running out of data unnecessary on your mobile plan, then your device might be infected.
Signs include receiving unexpected “system update” notifications, prompts to install a new app, or finding apps on your phone that you didn’t put there, and your battery that drains more rapidly than normal.
